Catching pop flies that travel a greater distance than any other hit an outfielder's glove is larger to increase the outfielders chances of catching the ball.
Early baseball glove makers seemed to understand this concept well, and outfielder gloves have always been larger than other gloves – with more support added to the wrist and to the fingertips of each player.

Special Aged Antique Tobacco Leather
An outfielders glove is usually given more padding than most other baseball gloves. If you're going to be catching pop flies that travel that far that fast, it's easy to understand why this is important.
Shoeless Joe´s Century series Gloves give a player the quality, feel and style of the gloves used by professional ball player over the last 100 years. You can choose glove models used in the first half-century in our Golden Age Series or today’s models in our Professional Model Series.
The Gloves are individually hand-cut and sewn from Special Aged Antique Tobacco Leather Hides. Our gloves are then hand-rubbed with old time ingredients to soften the leather before they go through our breaking in process that leaves the Glove with a beaten up and “Game Worn™” look and feel, of a broken in glove. Thus each gloves is unstructured giving its own unique feature.
A great play is lived only once, but Your Glove, you’ll keep it forever. If you end a game with a clean uniform our gloves are not for you.
